A logo what?



Someone who loves words is called a logophile. As language is at the centre of communication within our culture and is so key in the learning journey, how much time are we actually devoting to developing this love of words within the education process. Children learn through play, exploring the world around them and so why not use this approach when learning about words. Young children love learning big words so there is a real opportunity her to harness this. Early Years Education Practitioners do this so well: lots of talking about the child’s activity and introducing new words in context – but what happens as children progress? Too often, new words are reduced a list of spelling words which the child must learn for a test on Friday? Not the best way to develop a love of language is it?

Tomorrow, we will look at how to use a Thesaurus to develop interest in and enthusiasm for, language.
